Monstrodyssey
This collection of monsters is an attempt to compile monster archetypes for a format easily understood under the abstract tabletop role-playing systems Fate and Risus. This site isn't affiliated with either system in any way; I'm just a fan. While simple to learn with some dedication to reading and easily available online, both systems are qualitative in nature and subject to negotiation and subtlety.
One of the funnest things about role-playing is fashioning a character that you want to play and is unique to your own experiences. That's why such systems are exciting in their simplicity--Under Risus, a Spindly Fire-Spittin' Dragon (3) isn't more overpowered than a Conniving Paranoid Wererat (3), and it has yet to grow as strong as a Spindly Fire-Spittin' Dragon (6). Other systems generally limit you to some minor variation of humanoid, whether you have pointy ears, greener skin or an underbite. If you do want expanded race selection, you're likely barred from the option in a low-level game or forced to stick to some contrived and overly specific cultural heritage, or else you have to spend a great deal of time home-brewing it for your number-crunching campaign. While the lore details are good, you may have to search hell and high water for a more liberal DM who's willing to let you bestow that Conniving Paranoid Wererat (3) with some latent Pastry Baker (2) skills in his struggle to overcome prejudices about being unsanitary. If that's more fun for you to play, then it would behoove others not to nag you so much. Hopefully then you'll find that balance between challenging yourself to fabricate a vivid, immersive game world while simultaneously enjoying doing so, rather than feeling obligated towards it.
That being said, this particular reference came about as a population list for a personal project of mine, a multi-genre open-world-building series of Fate Core campaigns. There are suggestions for appearance and behavior for the monsters included, but you should in no way see these as limitations. Certain entries may be more species-oriented, while others may be oriented to their behavior.

Welcome to the Wilds
This world is teeming with life beyond comprehension. From and beyond the familiar beasts fittest for survival to eldritch horrors which wreak havoc upon the sanity of the mind, their variance is collected here. It would do little aid to render this text into a warning; wild creatures are dangerous and unpredictable by their very nature, and nature makes them what they are. While those who maintain the facade of civility may demoralize those different from themselves, there nevertheless exist a multitude of beings who strive for evolution. We are not the highest members of the food chain by any merit.
Legend
Following the monster's name is a short description of their appearance and behavior. This is a suggestion, as creatures should be considered "open lore"--they should be intended to fit any lore you wish.
